Paolo Maldini reveals he has previously held talks with Tottenham player’s agent

AC Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini has revealed that the Italian giants have previously held discussions with Serge Aurier’s agent over a move to the San Siro.

Maldini was speaking before the Rossoneri’s 3-0 win against Cagliari this evening and did not rule out the prospect of making another approach for the Tottenham Hotspur right-back.

Aurier started last season out of favour in North London under Mauricio Pochettino and admitted that he was looking to move on after becoming frustrated at the lack of game time (Bal des Productions).

The Ivorian’s current contract is set to expire in 2022 (BBC) and was rumoured to be set to open talks in January over an extension after finding himself as the club’s first choice right-back under Jose Mourinho (Foot Mercato).

Maldini insisted that Milan’s focus is currently on finishing the Serie A campaign but admitted that they would be active in the transfer window ahead of next season.

The former defender told Sky Sport Italia: “We had spoken last year with his agent, there was a possibility. Now we’ve got our minds on finishing the season, but then in the three weeks that players are on holiday we will be active on the market.”
