Pape Matar Sarr opens up on being the ‘little brother’ of the Spurs squad

Young midfielder Pape Sarr is always spotted in training videos laughing and joking with his teammates. Now, the Tottenham man has explained what it’s like to be the ‘little brother’ of the group.

Signed in 2021, Pape Sarr spent a further year on loan with his former club Metz before arriving in North London properly in the summer of 2022.

However, last season was a lesson in patience for the youngster, who was forced to watch from the sidelines by former coach Antonio Conte.

Under Ange Postecoglou, it has been a different story entirely. Sarr is now an established and valued member of the Tottenham first-team squad, and has excelled this season with three goals to his name already (Transfermarkt) and a string of top-quality performances.

Why do Spurs players tease Pape Sarr?

You only have to look at post-match celebrations or behind-the-scenes clips from training to see how much the Spurs squad adore Sarr. And now, Jamie Weir has asked the 21-year-old about all the footage of him being wound up by his playful teammates.

Weir showed Sarr clips of him being slapped and hit and hugged by mischievous colleagues like Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, and Fraser Forster.

Sarr then explained: “If you watch those clips you can really see that the guys treat me like their little brother. I’m really pleased that we all get on so well and it’s all part and parcel of how we are as a group every day.

“We like to try to have fun moments as we really just see each other here every morning, so we aim to enjoy ourselves playing football before everyone heads off later on. But I love it when they do stuff like this because it’s a lot of fun.”
