‘Part of our job’ – Conte admits confidence at Spurs is low but is not an excuse

Antonio Conte has admitted confidence is low and pressure is high to deliver positive results at Tottenham but says it is not an excuse for the club’s poor recent form.

Tottenham suffered a second straight home Premier League defeat of the week ealier today slipping to a 2-0 loss to Wolves after losing to Southampton in midweek.

Bruno Lage’s side were gifted an early advantage when Hugo Lloris failed to claim a Leander Dendoncker effort before Raul Jimenez lashed home, before the former tallied after some slack Spurs play out from defence.

Although Spurs somewhat improved deeper into the encounter, the damage had already been done in the first half with the gap to the top four starting to slowly increase.

With Spurs now holding a streak of three league defeats in a row, Conte suggests there is a lack of confidence around the club but it cannot be used as an excuse ahead of a tough match-up against Manchester City next weekend.

Conte said (via Football.London): “The confidence and the pressure is part of the job, the pressure for me and the pressure for the players. This type of situation is part of our job.

“When I speak about improving many aspects, it’s not only today after two defeats at home I tell you a different situation. There is a long road, a long path in front of us.

“It’s important not to be scared and face this path. In my opinion the performance was good we created many chances to score. We had the possession of the ball.

“The commitment is very high but there is more than this.”

Confidence looks like it has reached rock bottom at Tottenham at the moment and it needs addressing quickly before things get out of reach. Man City is a tough game to try and rebound, though, but this week has to be put behind the players with plenty of football remaining.
