‘Patiently waiting’ – Un-used Spurs substitute posts message after Vitesse defeat

Jack Clarke posted a message to social media after being an unused substitute in Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Vitesse in the Europa Conference League yesterday.

Tottenham paid £10m to sign Clarke from Leeds in 2019 on the back of his breakthrough season in the Championship but the youngster endured a frustrating 2019/20 campaign, struggling to get regular game time during his loan spells at Leeds and QPR.

The winger trained with the first team at Spurs during the first half of last season and managed to get a few senior appearances under his belt.

Clarke was loaned out to Stoke City in January of this year and the 20-year-old certainly proved his worth during his stint at the Bet365 Stadium, becoming a key player for Michael O’Neill’s side before his time at the club was cut short by an achilles injury

Reports indicated during the summer that the winger was expected to be sent out on loan again but he ended up staying put at Spurs.

The Leeds academy graduate has made just one senior appearance under Nuno Espirito Santo so far, which came in Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Pacos de Ferreira in the first leg of the Europa Conference League qualifier.

Clarke made the bench for Spurs’ clash against Vitesse yesterday, with the eleven players who featured against Newcastle not making the trip to Holland.

However, the youngster did not get any minutes under his belt and based on his latest Instagram post, he does not appear to be too pleased.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was surprised that Clarke was not loaned out in the summer, particularly after his impressive showing at Stoke in the second half of last season.

Perhaps, Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to take a closer look at the youngster. One would expect him to leave on loan when the transfer window reopens in January.
