Patrick Vieira tips Tottenham coach to be a successful manager one day

Patrick Vieira believes Tottenham academy coach Yaya Toure has a big future in management over the coming years.

Toure is widely seen as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, having won three league titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup during his time with Man City.

The 39-year-old, who hung up his boots in 2020, joined the Hotspur Way set-up last season and worked within the Tottenham academy while he collected his necessary coaching badges.

He subsequently stayed with the North London outfit for the new campaign, taking on the role of Under-16s head coach.

Reports indicated back in November of last year that Wigan Athletic wanted to make Toure their next head coach but the City legend turned down the opportunity at the time (Mike Minay).

Vieira believes that the Tottenham Under-16s boss has taken the right path and it is only a matter of time before he is managing at the top level.

The Crystal Palace head coach told William Hill (as relayed by Football.London) about Toure: “I think he’s someone who can make the step into management easily.

“I really like the path he’s decided to take with Spurs. I follow him, I’ve spoken to him and I know he’s enjoying himself very much at Spurs.

“That was his first step and he’s going to grow. When you have so much to give to the game, it’s important for these players to get some experience, and this is what Yaya is doing at Tottenham.

“He doesn’t need my advice! He’s smart enough to get to where he wants to go.

“He’s someone that doesn’t make so much noise, but he’s there developing and growing as a manager to be, and he will get there because he’s an ambitious person that commands respect – the way that he played and how he conducted himself on and off the field.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Toure rejected the chance to take the Wigan job suggests that the 39-year-old has his head screwed on and does not want to jump into a head coach job before he has learned the ropes.

The young players at the Tottenham academy would certainly be benefiting from having someone of Toure’s experience guiding them.
