Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has tipped Ivan Perisic to be one of the surprise stars of the upcoming season.
The Croatian became Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the summer when he joined as a free agent following the conclusion of his contract at Inter Milan.
Perisic, who has 113 caps for Croatia and scored in the 2018 World Cup final, had been at Inter since 2015.
He won the Serie A title in 2020/21 under Tottenham head coach Conte after spending the 2019-20 season on loan at Bayern Munich where he lifted the Champions League.
The 33-year-old moves to north London with a wealth of experience with Merson believing his versatility will also prove to be a key asset for Tottenham.
Merson told SportsKeeda: “I keep going on and on about this, but I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic. This guy works as hard as anyone and has the talent to hold his ground against some of the best players in the world – that is some recipe for a player.
“He’s an international footballer who works as hard as someone who has come from non-league football into the big leagues, indicating that he’s got the work-ethic to complement his wonderful natural ability. Perisic has played for multiple big teams across Europe’s top five leagues and remains a key player for Croatia, so I expect him to be a huge hit for Tottenham.
“He’s different class and gives Conte the option of playing as a left-wing back and a winger, making him an invaluable asset to the squad.”
Perisic is a serial winner and brings some much-needed experience to the Tottenham dressing room, which is key if the club need some old heads in their hope of challenging for silverware this season.
Ryan Sessegnon will also benefit from learning from Perisic on the left flank, the Croatian keeps himself in top shape, which is reflected in his injury history.
