Paul Merson claims James Maddison isn’t even better than Arsenal midfielder

Paul Merson has rejected the claim that James Maddison is a better player than Martin Odegaard.

Merson has got involved in quite a few Twitter spats recently and his most recent involves one about Maddison and Odegaard.

The Spurs midfielder has been out of action for almost three months but he was arguably the best player across the Premier League this season before picking up his injury at the start of November.

The 27-year-old was not only Tottenham’s main creative fulcrum but he also regularly made the difference in front of goal, with three goals and six assists in just 11 Premier League appearances prior to his injury (Transfermarkt).

Who is better, James Maddison or Martin Odegaard?

While Odegaard has not perhaps hit the heights he did for much of last season, the Norwegian has still been a key member of Arsenal’s attacking unit this season.

The 25-year-old will have a key role to play if Mikel Arteta’s men are to claw back their five-point gap with Liverpool, and Merson insisted that he would have the Arsenal star in his side over Maddison.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is difficult for fans to be objective in these kinds of debates. Being a Spurs fan, I would certainly not swap Maddison for Odegaard but almost all Arsenal fans will say the same about the Norwegian. The proof will be in the pudding at the end of the season.
