Paul Merson claims Spurs star doesn’t get as much credit as Man City and Liverpool counterparts

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris does not receive the credit he deserves.

The World Cup winner has been at Tottenham since joining from Lyon in 2012 and has gone on to make 378 appearances for the club in all competitions (transfermarkt).

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the current campaign and admitted last month he has not heard anything from the club about a new one (The Sun).

Merson was appearing alongside Jamie O’Hara as part of Copa 90’s preview of Sunday’s North London derby and was asked about Lloris while picking a combined XI from the bitter rivals.

The former midfielder queried why he is not mentioned in the same bracket of calibre of Manchester City’s Ederson and Alisson of Liverpool.

Merson told Copa90 at 4:14: “He’s a World Cup winner. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves, I think he is very underrated and they don’t talk about him in the Ederson, Alisson sort of, but for me, I think he’s a top goalie and makes big saves.”

Merson for once is correct, Lloris does not get the praise he deserves from some sections of the media. Since his elbow injury, he has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers and is fully deserving of a new contract to extend his stay at the club.
