Ange Postecoglou remains adamant that Tottenham can win a trophy this season, but Arsenal legend Paul Merson is far from convinced by their credentials.

Tottenham last won a trophy in 2008

Tottenham Hotspur fans have endured the driest of spells over the last 15 years, having last tasted the glory of silverware all the way back in 2008 – the then-Carling Cup.

Since then, League Cup finals, FA Cup semi-finals, Premier League title races and even a Champions League final have all ended in defeat for the Lilywhites.

Despite this, Ange Postecoglou remains confident that Tottenham can end their drought under him this season as they fight on four fronts for a long-awaited trophy.

Postecoglou always wins in his second season

Postecoglou has an impressive record on his CV – he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club. That’s lucky for Tottenham, as the Australian has been in North London for over 12 months now.

The Spurs boss was keen to remind the media of his credentials in a spicy post-match interview following Tottenham’s North London Derby defeat to Arsenal.

However, Paul Merson is not a believer in the Tottenham trophy charge this season. He joked to Sky Sports (15/09/24 from 16:20): “I like Ange, I like him, but I’ve got more chance of winning Strictly.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Like Paul Merson on strictly, Spurs keep tripping over their own feet in the Premier League at the moment.

However, Ange remaining confident that Tottenham will win a trophy should breathe life into the squad. After all, this is a long-term project – fans should keep the faith and give Postecoglou at least a couple of years before making harsh judgements.
