Paul Merson makes claim on where Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal could finish

Paul Merson has said that he would not be surprised if Chelsea finished behind their London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal this season.

Tottenham have had a solid but unspectacular start to the season, winning three matches and drawing two.

The two draws that Antonio Conte’s men have had has come in tough derby matches at the London Stadium and Stamford Bridge while the have overcome Southampton, Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal have had a much easier start on paper than their North London rivals but the Gunners have a perfect record so far and are sitting at the top of the table.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have had a poor start to the campaign, having fallen to defeats at Elland Road and St Mary’s so far.

That means that just five games into the campaign, Thomas Tuchel’s men are already four points adrift of Spurs and eight behind Arsenal.

Merson has suggested that Chelsea’s poor start to the season has been a shot in the arm to the top four hopes of the two North London club.

The Gunners legend told SportsKeeda: “The way Chelsea have started their Premier League season, they’ve brought Arsenal and Tottenham straight into the top four equation.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if both these teams finish above Chelsea this season.”

I think there is no question that Spurs have had the most difficult start out of the three teams while Arsenal have had the easiest. It is still too early to make predictions about where these teams will finish. The table will only start to take shape around ten games into the season.
