Paul Merson on whether Spurs can challenge for the title

Manchester City had a stellar campaign last season and for all intents and purposes sealed their title win pretty early on.

However, we seem to have a genuine title race on our hands this year as Manchester City’s win against Liverpool last week puts them just 4 points behind the leaders, while Spurs in third place sit six points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, most pundits have ruled Tottenham out of the running for the title and have insisted that it is a two horse race between Liverpool and Manchester City. Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville said the same last week and now it looks like Paul Merson has echoed their sentiments.

The former Arsenal midfielder suggested that Tottenham do not have a chance of winning the league.

Speaking to Sky Sports News on Friday morning, Merson said regarding Tottenham’s chances of finishing top, “For me, no, I don’t give them a chance because I just don’t think they have got it.”

Given that Pochettino’s Tottenham usually come on strong in the second half of the season, perhaps it is a little too premature to dismiss Spurs’ chances just yet. However, one thing is for sure – the pressure is certainly off Tottenham for the moment as most experts aren’t giving the Lillywhites any chance.
