Paul Merson picks out weakness in Tanguy Ndombele’s game

Paul Merson has claimed that Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is a ‘baller’, but believes he doesn’t have the ability to play a final pass.

The Arsenal icon commented on the Frenchman while analysing Tottenham’s indifferent start to the Premier League campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Ndombele has only recently earned regular game time under Nuno, after not playing a single minute during pre-season.

Merson claims Ndombele has the talent and ability at his disposal to beat players with his close control in midfield, but believes he does not have the ability to play a killer through ball to those ahead of him in his locker.

In his column for the Daily Star, he wrote: “And Tanguy Ndombele is a runner. A baller. He beats players. But he’s not going to put the ball through the eye of a needle for you.”

Nuno has found it hard to find a midfield he has been comfortable with so far this season, which has often led to Harry Kane being starved of any kind of service.

As such, Spurs have had trouble finding the net in the Premier League, and sit 18th for goals scored per match with 0.7 after six games.

Ndombele clearly has the talent, and we may not have seen the true potential of his ability so far during his time at the club. His attacking play isn’t really his game, but no doubt if he was played further forward he could showcase that he does have a killer pass in his locker.

Tottenham are still yet to replace Christian Eriksen who proved time and time again that he was the creative spark that the likes of Harry Kane and even Dele Alli thrived upon.
