Paul Merson predicts a five-goal thriller between Spurs and Wolves this weekend

Paul Merson expects Tottenham and Wolves to play out a high-scoring game on Saturday, with the pundit backing the home side to edge out their opponents.

With the top end of the table now extremely congested, Spurs will look at the clash against Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a must-win game.

Although the Lilywhites will be without a couple of key players, Ange Postecoglou now has a much stronger squad to choose from than he did until a month or so ago.

Tottenham’s win over Brighton last week showed the value of having a strong bench, with Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson coming on to combine for a winner in stoppage time.

While there is no doubt that Son will walk into the starting eleven, it remains to be seen who makes way, with Merson believing that Dejan Kulusevski will drop to the bench rather than Timo Werner, whose pace will prove handy for Spurs.

Paul Merson expects Tottenham vs Wolves to be exciting

The former Arsenal midfielder insisted that Tottenham will not have things their own way on Saturday but backed them to sneak over the line.

The pundit told Sportskeeda: “Wolves wiped the floor against Chelsea but lost at home to a struggling Brentford side, so it wouldn’t surprise me if this game goes either way. Tottenham will come out and play as usual, which is lovely to watch as a neutral.

“I have a strong feeling about this game – I can see it being entertaining with bags of goals. With Son Heung-Min ready to come back into the starting XI, it remains to be seen who misses out from the front three.

“I could be wrong, but I think Dejan Kulusevski will be the one to make way, with Timo Werner and Richarlison playing alongside the South Korean in attack.

“Kulusevski is a fantastic player and I’m a big fan of him, but Werner’s pace and ability to run in behind defenders could open up a lot of space for James Maddison to exploit.”

Prediction: Tottenham 3-2 Wolves.

Spurs Web Opinion

Wolves certainly have some threats going forward and if Spurs do not bring their A-game and simply go through the motions (like they did in the first-half against Brighton), the West Midlands side can hurt them. Postecoglou will demand that his players put the away side under pressure right from kick-off.
