Paul Merson believes West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur will go toe to toe with each other this evening in the London derby.

Tottenham are on the road this mid-week as they travel to the London Stadium to battle it out against West Ham. The visitors come into this game with an unbeaten streak in the Premier League, having started their campaign with three wins and a draw.

Spurs have already recorded an impressive away result this season against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with an early 2-2 draw. However, they will be looking for even more away to the Hammers, with David Moyes’ side yet to get going in this campaign.

That being said, form usually goes out the window in a derby fixture, as teams often find a way to be at their best against bitter rivals. West Ham could prove to be a stern challenger at their home stadium, especially after their recent 1-0 against Aston Villa.

Merson has predicted that the Hammers’ recent victory over Villa, coupled with the north London outfit’s dull performances, will result in the derby being a highly contested draw.

Merson’s Prediction: West Ham 1-1 Tottenham

In his Sportskeeda column, Merson wrote: “West Ham got a big result against Aston Villa as they finally got their first point of the season.

“Tottenham, on the other hand, have got good results, but a deeper dive into their performances will tell you that they haven’t played particularly well.

“This is a London derby and the fans will be right up for this one, so I expect this to be a cracker of a contest.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

While Antonio Conte’s club have fought their way to earn solid results in their last few games, they need to rack up a string of convincing displays to get through the upcoming fixtures that await them in the next month or so. Even though West Ham have not looked good so far, they would still pose a stern threat to Spurs.
