Paul Merson predicts six goals at Anfield in Liverpool vs Tottenham

Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham will once again ship four goals against Liverpool on Sunday, just as they did at St James’ Park a few weeks ago.

Following the tame performance that Spurs delivered at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, it is fair to say that most Tottenham supporters now just want the season to end.

While the Lilywhites are still mathematically in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, even the most optimistic of Spurs fans would not give them a chance of finishing above Aston Villa, given the performances that Ange Postecoglou’s men have produced off late.

Tottenham’s form away from home has been particularly concerning and Merson believes that Spurs will run into a hungry Liverpool side who would be keen to give Jurgen Klopp a memorable farewell by winning the final few games of the season.

Liverpool vs Tottenham score prediction

The former Arsenal midfielder backed the Reds to put four past Tottenham but also predicted that the away side would find the back of the net on a couple of occasions.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “Jurgen Klopp only has two more home games and his players will want to put on a show to give him the send-off he deserves. Tottenham always have a go and score a lot of goals, so this game could be incredibly entertaining.

“Liverpool hadn’t won the league title in over 30 years, so Klopp is definitely their best manager in the Premier League era. I’m a big fan of him, he’s an outstanding manager who has made them a force to be reckoned with again.

“Arne Slot has big shoes to fill, let me put it this way. I don’t know much about him, but it’s hard to follow in the footsteps of someone so legendary, so he has his work cut out for him.

“The Klopp-Mohamed Salah touchline incident was a bit sad to see. They’re both Liverpool legends, so I don’t want to see it end like this. I’m not aware of the exact details of the incident so I don’t want to speculate, but whatever it was, I hope they can put it past them and enjoy the rest of the campaign.”

Prediction: Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

Even predicting a 4-2 loss is quite generous to Spurs as I can see the scoreline getting very ugly if Liverpool start well and score early.

While Postecoglou would want to see a response from his side after the two derby defeats, he might not hold out too much hope of that, given how much the side has struggled away from home over the last couple of months.
