Paul Merson taunts Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris

After Hugo Lloris’ recent mistake which led to Liverpool taking all three points, Paul Merson gave his opinion on the goalkeepers costly error for Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

Lloris spilled the ball onto the unaware feet of Toby Alderweireld resulting in an own goal and a 2-1 loss for the North London side when they deserved so much more.

In his recent column for Sky Sports where he is predicting this weekend’s matches, the pundit took a dig at the Tottenham keeper.

Merson said: “They [Liverpool] had a result and a bit of luck last weekend with a World Cup-winning goalkeeper dropping a ball my four-year-old would have caught, and I think they take advantage in this game and go top again.”

Lloris’ form for Tottenham over the past 18 months has been somewhat inconsistent making a game saving performance one week and a goalkeeping howler that costs Spurs valuable points in the next fixture.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino showed faith in his captain in midweek against Crystal Palace where the Frenchman kept a clean sheet. It is time for the captain to eradicate the mistakes.

Tottenham face Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter-Final on Tuesday evening and Lloris cannot afford to let his side down on Europe’s biggest stage.
