Paul Robinson claims it is only a matter of time before Spurs star is back to his best

Tottenham Hotspur have had an indifferent start to the new Premier League season, winning just three games from eight.

Spurs may have picked up impressive away draws at Arsenal and Man City, but they let themselves down with shock losses to Newcastle United, Leicester City, and Brighton.

The club have not fared any better in the Champions League either, dropping points in both of their first two games of the group stage, including a 7-2 battering against Bayern Munich.

Dele Alli has so far been unable to earn a string of starts for Spurs this season, which followed a below-par campaign from the 23-year-old last year. Alli was even dropped from the most recent England squad.

However, while his performances have been disappointing of late, Alli has been hit with a number of injuries while also being pushed back into a deeper role at times.

Ex-Spurs keeper, Paul Robinson, believes Alli will be back to his best in no time (Football Insider): “He’s been indifferent this year, hence his omission from the England squad, but I think it’s difficult as a player when you’re not playing well and the team around you is not playing well.

“I think Spurs, there’s been something amiss there, whether it’s Christian Eriksen’s contract or Vertonghen’s contract, Alderweireld’s contract – there’s something that’s just not clicked there at the moment.

“If you’re a player that’s struggling for form and you’re playing in a team that’s not playing well, it’s always difficult to re-discover your form.

“Can Alli get back to his best? Yeah absolutely, I think it’s just a matter of time. It’s a matter of time, confidence and that’s what it is as a player.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I agree that Dele will get back to his best this season, but I think Pochettino needs to help him. He needs to be playing as a centre forward behind Kane, by far his best position in my opinion. Poch can perhaps use Son and Kane as two strikers, with Dele just behind and a midfield of Sissoko, Winks, and Ndombele.
