Paul Robinson highlights Spurs’ biggest problem area; praises rarely-featured player

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has claimed that the central defensive positions has been the club’s biggest problem this season.

Head coach Jose Mourinho has continually chopped and changed his pairing at the heart of the Spurs defence all season.

Robinson has claimed that not one central defender has shown enough consistency with their form to warrant a regular place in the starting eleven.

Mourinho handed Joe Rodon a rare start in Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.

The summer signing from Swansea City had not featured for Tottenham in the Premier League since the 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of January.

Rodon has also had to watch on in the Europa League after he was not included by the Portuguese in his 25-man squad.

Robinson was full of praise for the Welsh international following his performance at Villa Park, claiming that Mourino must have faith in the 23-year-old to play him in such a high pressure game.

Robinson told Football Insider: Mourinho has got a lot of faith in Rodon,”

“He is not shy to put him into the side in big games and he repaid the faith against Villa. He could be the answer.

“It has been the biggest problem area for Spurs all season, centre-half. Whoever it has been, Dier, Alderweireld, Sanchez or Rodon it has not worked or at least Mourinho has not liked it.

“There has not been a consistent pairing all season. Not one centre-half has shown good enough consistency this season.”
