Paul Robinson has insisted that he is not convinced that rumoured Tottenham target James Ward-Prowse would improve Antonio Conte’s starting eleven.

Ward-Prowse has taken his game to a new level over the past couple of seasons and has been a regular in England squads.

According to reports (Daily Star), Tottenham are one of a whole host of Premier League clubs, including the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester United and Manchester City, who have expressed an interest in the Saints captain.

The report added that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side would demand around £60m to part ways with the midfielder.

Tottenham’s interest in Ward-Prowse has also been backed up by Alasdair Gold, who said during a Q&A io Football.London a couple of weeks ago that the 27-year-old has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time.

While Robinson praised Ward-Prowse’s ability on set-pieces, he insisted that he is not convinced about the Southampton star’s all-round game.

The former Spurs number one told Football Insider: “I’m not so sure about Ward-Prowse. Make no mistake about it, his set-pieces are incredible. But I am yet to be convinced about his all-round game.

“Yes, he stands out in a Southampton team but could he stand out in a Spurs team? Could he take Spurs to the next level? Which is competing regularly in the Champions League. I’m not sure he could if I’m honest. I’d be looking elsewhere.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would have agreed with Robinson a couple of years ago but Ward-Prowse has added a level of consistency to his game over the last couple of players.

While the 27-year-old is perhaps not as good as Hojbjerg or Skipp off the ball (which is a high bar), he is better in possession than any of our current central midfield options.
