Paul Scholes aims dig at Spurs and Jose Mourinho ahead of Man Utd match

Paul Scholes has aimed a dig at both Tottenham Hotspur and Jose Mourinho after claiming that the Portuguese dropped down a level to join the North Londoners.

Mourinho was sacked as manager of Manchester United in December 2018 after guiding the Old Trafford outfit to League Cup and Europa League success but were 19 points behind Liverpool at the time of his dismissal (BBC).

The Portuguese has guided Tottenham to the League Cup final but faces a battle for the club to secure Champions League football next season after suffering a humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb and are five points behind fourth-place Chelsea with a game in hand.

Scholes has claimed that Mourinho’s career is on a downward trajectory and is now competing for honours which are considerably lower down on the list compared to what he has previously won in his illustrious career.

He told the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel: “He’s at Tottenham and Tottenham are a club that I expect to try and challenge to win a League Cup or FA Cup,”

“But other than that, getting in the top four is a success for them and that’s just the level he’s dropped down to now.”
