Paul Scholes makes big Harry Kane claim after Tottenham’s win over Man City

Paul Scholes has showered praise on Harry Kane after his performance against Manchester City, insisting that the Tottenham man produced one of the best centre-forward performances he has seen in a long time.

Understandably, the build-up to Tottenham’s trip to City was dominated by the drama of Kane going up against the team he wanted to join in the summer.

Pep Guardiola admitted pre-match that City made four offers for the England captain during the summer but Spurs simply refused to sell him (Daily Mail).

The 28-year-old proved on Saturday exactly why Guardiola wanted him as he scored two goals and toyed with the City defence and midfield through the ninety minutes.

The striker has come in for a lot of praise from the likes of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker for his impressive display.

Scholes has gone a step further and suggested that the all-round display from the Tottenham man was one of the best he can remember.

Speaking after Spurs’ win at the Etihad, the Man Utd legend told  Premier League Productions (20/02/22 at 1:40 pm): “Kane and Son were brilliant. The best centre-forward performance I have probably seen in a long time from Harry Kane.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is worth remembering that City sold Kane short in the summer by never coming close to meeting Tottenham’s asking price, despite the striker pushing to join the Premier League champions (Telegraph).

So, I think there was certainly an element of the 28-year-old wanting to show Guardiola’s men why they should have pushed to the boat for him in the summer rather than paying big money to sign Jack Grealish.
