Paul Scholes has claimed that Manchester United have a better chance of winning the Europa League than Tottenham Hotspur since the Red Devils have a better squad.
While Leicester City got knocked out at the round of 32 stage, Spurs, United and Arsenal all sealed progression into the final 16.
Tottenham have arguably been handed the most favourable draw out of the three English sides, with Jose Mourinho’s men set to face off against Dinamo Zagreb for a place in the quarter-final of the competition.
Arsenal meanwhile have been drawn against Olypioakos while United face the trickiest test of the Premier League sides where they take on Serie A’s second-place side AC Milan.
However, Scholes is confident that his former side will ease past Milan and even claimed that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side are the best team remaining in the competition.
He beleives that United have a much better chance of going all the way than the two North London clubs.
“Look, Man United have the best squad and the best team left in the competition. We thought that last year, obviously Sevilla were still around then. We know what they’re like in the Europa League so they found it difficult.
“But this is a great chance for United to go on and win something. There could be some brilliant games but there could be some rubbish games.
“Yeah they [Arsenal and Spurs] will be thinking they’re in with a good chance, of course they will. But Manchester United are much better than Arsenal and Tottenham.
“Of course I would [fancy United against anyone left]. Italian football, Spanish football is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Milan are top of the league, I think United would cruise past Milan.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I believe Spurs have as good a chance as United to win the Europa Leauge, particularly given Mourinho’s record in knockout competitions. I also do not believe that Man Utd’s squad is superior to ours as they have similar flaws to us at centre-back while we are as good if not better in the middle of the park and upfront.
