Argentine sends goodbye message to Spurs fans after contract ends

Paulo Gazzaniga has taken to Twitter to bid farewell to the Tottenham faithful after his contract with the North London club ran down this week.

Spurs announced at the start of the week that both Gazzaniga and Danny Rose would be leaving the club, along with a handful of academy players.

The Argentine shot-stopper has been out on loan this season after being displaced as Tottenham’s number two goalkeeper by Joe Hart in the summer.

Rather than spend the campaign not even making matchday squads, Gazzaniga joined Elche CF on loan, although he played little more than a bit-part role there too.

The former Spurs man featured just eight times in La Liga for the Spanish side, far fewer than the 25 total appearances he made for Spurs in the 2019/20 season.

Across his Tottenham career, Gazzaniga managed 37 games between the sticks and ten clean sheets (TransferMarkt).

The Argentine has now said goodbye to the fans, thanking them for the memories and hoping that he sees them again some time.

Gazzaniga said: ‘Spurs fans: I couldn’t say goodbye at N17, but wanted to say thank you for all your support during these years.

‘It has been an amazing journey full of unbelievable memories. I learned a lot from teammates, staff and fans…THANK YOU! All the best and hope to see you again.’
