Pedro Porro breaks all-time Spurs record after just 21 games this season

After providing yet another assist during the 2-2 draw against Manchester United yesterday, Pedro Porro now holds the record for most assists from a Tottenham Hotspur defender in any season, and there should still be plenty more to come.

When he first arrived at the club a year ago, Pedro Porro came with huge expectations on his shoulders. Admittedly, his early days in North London were tarnished by a few defensive errors, leading to criticism for the Spaniard.

However, he has since adapted to the Premier League brilliantly and is now excelling within Ange Postecoglou‘s free-flowing system. As an inverted wing-back, Porro is given ample opportunity to push forward, and he and the team are reaping the rewards of this brave approach.

Porro has been key to Tottenham’s success this season, and was at the heart of the action once more as his corner allowed Richarlison to score the first of the Lilywhites’ two goals against Manchester United yesterday.

Pedro Porro breaks Tottenham PL assist record

According to Squawka, that assist marks Porro’s seventh of the current Premier League campaign, and helped him achieve a new record for Spurs.

Squawka claims Porro has “now provided more assists in 2023/24 than any Tottenham defender has ever managed in a single Premier League campaign.”

Ben Davies previously held the record with six assists in the 2017/18 season. In the same season, Kieran Tripper bagged five assists, and Serge Aurier also registered five assists in the Premier League during the 2019/20 campaign (all via WhoScored.com).

Spurs Web Opinion

Pedro Porro is clearly enjoying his role higher up the pitch under Ange, and it’s crazy to think how many more assists are going to come this season from his deliveries. He does keep getting caught out defensively, though, so there’s room for improvement, but his attacking output compensates for this and was always going to lead to him being exposed on the counter.
