Pedro Porro explains what he thinks he can bring to this Tottenham team

Pedro Porro has admitted in his first interview as a Tottenham player that he cannot wait to throw on a Spurs shirt and run out onto the field for his first game against Manchester City.

Tottenham made wholesale changes at right wing-back during transfer deadline day, with Porro arriving through the door and Djed Spence and Matt Doherty both being offloaded.

The 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength at Sporting over the last 18 months and the expectation is for the Spaniard to be thrown straight into the starting eleven at right wing-back (The Sun).

Porro admitted that he has been following Tottenham’s games closely this season and he believes he can add a lot to the team.

He told the club’s official website: “I can bring a lot of character and personality to this team. Above all, my desire and will to win.

“I’ve also managed to watch quite a few league games this season, I’ve been following our games too, and in this case, I can say that now! So, yes, I can provide character, desire, and a great attitude.”

Porro could go up against his former employers, Man City, in his first game for the Lilywhties, with the right-back having signed for Pep Guardiola’s men back in 2019. Although, he did not play a single match for the club before making a permanent switch to Sporting last summer.

When asked about going up against City, he responded: “Yes, that’s why I was saying that we have to start well, get on a winning run and that hopefully begins on Sunday.

“For the moment, as I said, the main thing is to start well and to go on a winning run. I’m really up for it and can’t wait to get started.

“And, yes, it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid, to play in the Premier League. I hope that it comes true, goes well this Sunday, and that we pick up the win.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While it would be exciting if Conte decides to throw Porro straight into the team, I would be surprised if he does so. The Italian has generally been hesitant to trust new signings before they get a full understanding of his system. Besides, he might want some extra defensive insurance at right wing-back against City, which is why Emerson is likely to be given the nod.
