Pedro Porro outlines two reasons why he was keen to join Tottenham

Pedro Porro has admitted that the atmosphere he witnessed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Sporting Lisbon’s Champions League clash earlier this season was one of the reasons why he was keen on moving to the North London club.

The negotiations between Tottenham and Sporting seemingly dragged on for an entire month and it even appeared as if the deal might fall through on Monday (David Ornstein).

However, in the end, the Lilywhites managed to get a deal over the line on deadline day, with reports indicating that Spurs have agreed to pay an initial £5m loan fee for the right-back, with an obligation to make it permanent for another £39m in the summer (Sky Sports).

Porro admitted in his first interview as a Spurs player that he cannot wait to walk out for the first time at the club’s home ground.

When asked what he is looking forward to the most, the 23-year-old told the club’s official website: “Above all, it’s the atmosphere in the stadium and the supporters.

“The red-hot atmosphere that I felt when I came here in the Champions League, I was really impressed by it. I feel great about the move. I really wanted to come here. It’s a unique opportunity for me and I hope everything goes well.”

Tottenham’s newest addition also remarked that the system Antonio Conte deploys is one of the reasons why he felt it would be a very good fit for him.

When pointed out that the Spurs boss likes to play with wing-backs, Porro responded: “Yes, I think it will be a very good thing for me, and that’s also why I was so struck by the prospect of playing here.

“I hope that’s just exactly how it turns out, and that everything goes very well, that’s the main thing, and here’s hoping we can start this next period (of the season) on the right foot and that it’ll be a great one for everyone.”

Given how reliant Conte’s system is on wing-backs to be able to create opportunities, this signing has the potential to transform the side. There is no doubt that Porro’s crossing and one vs one ability will add a completely different dimension to our attack.
