Pedro Porro says Tottenham teammate is ‘the best in the world’

Pedro Porro has described Cristian Romero as the best centre-back in the world following Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Romero had more than his fair share of critics during the latter part of last season, with the Argentine struggling for consistency after returning from the World Cup.

However, since Ange Postecoglou arrived through the door last summer and appointed him vice-captain, the centre-back has been near flawless, emerging as the leader of a young Spurs backline.

On Saturday, the 25-year-old delivered another solid display at the back alongside Micky van de Ven and also made the difference at the other end, getting on the end of a looped James Maddison cross to put the home side 2-1 up in the 80th minute.

Romero ran over to the south stand to celebrate passionately with the supporters, kissing the Tottenham badge after helping his side complete the turnaround.

Porro, who missed the game due to an injury, posted a picture on Instagram of him hugging the Argentine after the final whistle, with the Spaniard describing his teammate as ‘the best centre-back in the world’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero has shown over the course of this season just why many rate him as one of the best in the world.

The 25-year-old still does not get the praise and recognition he deserves from pundits and neutrals, possibly because he still has not shaken off his reputation of being reckless.

However, it is quite clear that the centre-back has ironed out some of the rough edges in his game and is now playing with a lore more maturity.
