‘People jump on you’ – Tanguy Ndombele opens up on his loan away from Spurs

Tanguy Ndombele has been speaking about his season on loan at Napoli, admitting that the passion of the fans on the streets is unlike anything he has experienced before.

Ndombele has not been able to force himself into Napoli’s starting eleven this season but has proven to be quite a valuable squad player, with Luciano Spalletti primarily using the Frenchman as an impact substitute.

The 26-year-old has certainly demonstrated his ability on a few occasions but Area Napoli suggested a couple of weeks ago that the Serie A club would not be prepared to activate the €28m (£24.7m) option to buy the player permanently.

The report suggested that Napoli would instead look to extend Ndombele’s loan deal by another 12 months, with an obligation to make it permanent for around €20m (£17.7m) in 2024.

It remains to see what the future holds for the Frenchman, who has now spoken about the uniqueness of the fans in the Campania capital.

The on-loan Tottenham man told Foot11: “I was told that playing at Napoli was good, but it could quickly become complicated.

“Here, when you win, it goes rather well, but when the results aren’t there… Honestly, I’ve never known such an atmosphere.

“In Naples, when you go in the street, when you go to a restaurant or go for a walk, people jump on you.”

It certainly is not out of the question that the next Spurs manager could decide to give Ndombele a chance to rescue his Tottenham career.

We will have to wait and see if the midfielder asks to join Naples permanently, given that he has struggled to get starts under his belt this season.
