‘People need to calm down’ – Patrice Evra fires back at Tottenham critics

Patrice Evra has claimed that people need to dial down their criticism of Tottenham and even remarked that the North London club have the upper hand over Liverpool heading into Sunday’s clash.

Antonio Conte has now completed one year in charge of Tottenham, and the Spurs boss insisted in his pre-match press conference on Friday that he is proud of the progress the team has made in the last 12 months (Football.London).

He shot back at his and the club’s critics, insisting that his players have done exceedingly well to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League despite missing several key players over the last few weeks.

The Lilywhites now have an opportunity to make a statement on Sunday and move 13 points clear of Liverpool with a win.

The Reds have struggled to string results together this season and Evra believes that Spurs are favourites for the match, given the frailties that Jurgen Klopp’s men have in their backline.

When asked how he thinks the game will unfold, the former Manchester United left-back told The Daily Mirror: “Their [Liverpool’s] defence is weak. It’s going to be a good game.

“Tottenham got a late goal last time out and I think there’s been a lot of criticism about them, but people need to calm down and remember where they were.

“I’m going for Spurs and Conte in this one because you can’t trust Liverpool this season, which is so weird because normally you can trust Klopp’s side. Everyone is in shock, what is going on with that team.”

I would have been confident about this game had Son been available as he would have really hurt the Liverpool backline with his ability to run in behind. However, without Son and Richarlison and with Moura and Kulusevski not at 100 per cent, I do fear that we might lack the cutting-edge to consistently trouble their backline.
