Pep Guardiola aims dig at Tottenham

The last time Tottenham and Man City came face to face was on a rather torn up Wembley pitch in October, just after a series of NFL games had been played on the turf.

The surface made for a rather scrappy game, as Man City and Tottenham both usually like to keep the ball on the deck with quick passing triangles.

Man City came out as 1-0 winners after a pitch-related bobble saw Lamela’s great late chance fly skyward.

The Premier League title holders go head to head against Newport this evening, and much has been said about the Rodney Parade pitch in the build up to the FA Cup tie.

City look as if they are going to face another battered pitch in South Wales today as they look to make their way into the next round of the cup.

Pep Guardiola didn’t miss the chance to take a dig at Spurs and compare the two pitches either.

He said (Daily Star): “We played in the Premier League against Tottenham after NFL games.

“We’ll see what the pitch is like when we arrive. If you cannot play (the normal game), you have to play longer or quicker – but I don’t know. We are going to see.

“You don’t win absolutely anything complaining about that. When we play away, they are the owners of their stadium and they can play the pitch what it is.”
