Pep Guardiola predicts how Spurs could be a threat next season

Pep Guardiola has backed Tottenham Hotspur to improve considerably next season with key players having returned to fitness

Spurs have had a forgettable campaign after finding themselves failing to win a trophy for yet another season and are at risk of failing to qualify for European football/

The North Londoners could still potentially salvage the season in the seven games they have left to play, with a top-four spot potentially up for grabs.

Jose Mourinho has already revealed that he wants to mount a title challenge next season (Sky Sports), a prediction that some would consider rather optimistic given the current state of affairs at Spurs.

However, it is something that Guardiola seemingly agrees with. The Manchester City manager, who has developed a major rivalry with Mourinho over the years, back the experienced Portuguese coach to get the best out of the Spurs squad next season.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, the City boss said: “I think every season the opponents get stronger.

“Liverpool will remain the strong team they are, we are seeing how Chelsea are investing in this transfer market.

“We saw in the last period how Man United made a step forward.

“Tottenham are going to recover a lot of injured players, with Son, Harry Kane and other players and with an experienced manager like [Jose] Mourinho they are always going to be strong.

“Arsenal with more time with Mikel [Arteta] is going to happen – and Leicester you know.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even the most hardened of Spurs fans probably do not expect us to go toe to toe with the likes of Liverpool and Man City next season. We simply have too much ground to make up on those teams, especially considering we are unlikely to be able to overhaul the squad in the summer.

As things stand, I believe we are at least 2 years away from mounting a title challenge but I would expect Jose to get the squad believing that we have a chance at winning the league season.
