Pep Guardiola reveals whether Man City could sign likes of Harry Kane

In a potential boost to Tottenham’s chances of holding on to Harry Kane this summer, Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City are not likely to pursue the England captain or any other striker.

City are one of the clubs who have been credited with an interest in Kane. With Sergio Aguero set to leave the Etihad at the end of the season, some have suggested that the England captain might be the perfect replacement for the Argentine legend.

However, reports indicate that Daniel Levy will refuse any potential approach for Kane from domestic rivals while the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus are not in a position to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the striker.

It now looks as though Levy does not have to worry about a potential summer approach from City, with Guardiola admitting that the club might not enter the market for an Aguero replacement due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

The Spaniard told Sky Sports: “There is a big chance we are not going to sign a striker this summer.

“We have enough players in the first-team right now and we have interesting players in the academy, so there is a big chance that, because of the economic situation in the world right now, we are not going to sign a striker next season.

“With these prices, we are not going to buy any striker. It’s impossible, we can’t afford it. That is not going to happen. All the clubs struggle financially, and we are not an exception.

“We have Gabriel Jesus, we have Ferran Torres, who played incredibly this season in that position, we have young players in the academy, and we play many times with a false nine.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, maybe it is going to happen, but maybe we are not going to buy any striker for the next season. Today there is more chance we are not going to buy any striker for the next season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe City are the only English club that Kane could realistically leave Spurs for. Not only are they the only ones who can afford to pay Tottenham’s asking price for the striker but City are also the only club in the Premier League where Kane will be guaranteed to win titles. So this admission from Guardiola is certainly a boost to Tottenham’s chances of holding on to the talismanic striker.
