‘Period of hostility’ – Spurs and Liverpool could be set for frosty relationship in future

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer activity during the January transfer window has been well documented after the club reportedly lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign Luis Diaz.

The Athletic claim that sources close to the north London club believe there could be some bad blood between the two Premier League teams for some time after Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was left furious over the deal and once-friendly relations between the two sides may have been damaged.

Tottenham are said to have been leading the race for the Porto winger late in the transfer window, only for Liverpool to swoop in while the player was on international duty in South America with Colombia and secure his signature (Express).

Liverpool were originally prepared to wait until the summer to sign the 25-year-old but accelerated their plans once they heard of Tottenham’s intention to sign him in January (Mirror).

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that sources suggested that Levy threatened to report Liverpool’s recruitment team to the club’s owners.

A frosty relationship between the two clubs may exist for some time over this deal, but Tottenham need to take a step back and reevaluate. We may have the pulling power of a big-name manager, but so do Liverpool.

The club must break into the top four and secure Champions League football if Levy and Paratici want to lure the very best talent to the club, unfortunately, Conte has a thin squad to try and make this happen between now and the end of the campaign.
