‘Personally’ – Ledley King doesn’t think Nuno is playing star in best position

Ledley King has claimed that Dele Alli is not being utilised in his best position at Tottenham and that Nuno Espirito Santo needs to rectify that to get him firing again.

The former central defender made the claim following his former side’s shocking display in the North London derby against Arsenal, which saw them brushed aside 3-1.

Alli has found his usual role in the side slightly altered since the arrival of Nuno often being used deeper in midfield rather than behind the striker.

However, Nuno has at least elected to start him in every Premier League game so far this season, utilising him as a hard-working option in the engine room.

This was where Dele lined up again at the Emirates, but he was hauled off at half-time after Spurs found themselves 3-0 down in 35-minutes.

Alli struggled to have any sort of impetus on proceedings, which saw Spurs fall to their third successive defeat of the campaign.

Spurs club legend, Ledley King believes the midfielder should make a return to a spot just behind striker Harry Kane – a position he thrived in on his arrival at the club six years ago.

King told Sky Sports Premier League (7:23 pm, September 26, 2021): “I personally think his best role is in the number 10 where he can attack the box. We know he has great energy, an eye for goal. That’s his strength.”

Alli has been elected to play a deeper midfield role by Nuno, likely because he can run the miles for the team. Unfortunately, that is proving to be insufficient, with him struggling to have any real progressive impact on the side. A change of formation and role by Nuno may need to be the next play to turn his fortunes around.
