Peter Crouch highlights what Tottenham need to finally address in January

It is great to finally see some positive news about Tottenham after several weeks of negativity surrounding the club.

The players needed to respond positively against Red Star Belgrade after putting in several sub-standard performances in recent weeks and it is fair to say that they sent a real statement with the 5-0 hammering of the Serbian side.

Former Spurs striker Peter Crouch along with former midfielders, Glenn Hoddle and Jermaine Jenas were present in North London as part of the punditry panel for BT Sport.

After the game, the trio were discussing what Tottenham need to do to turn a corner and get back to where they were and Crouch insisted that the club needed to either get their stars signed to new contracts or sell them in January.

The former England striker told BT Sport 2 from 10pm on 22/10/19: “Yeah it needs freshening up. The biggest thing for me is that it has been rumbling on for a long time.

“All the Eriksens, the Alderweirelds, they either sign new contracts or they move on. And I think that needs to be addressed in January.”

Meanwhile, Jenas dismissed suggestions that the team’s drop in form was due to the fact that some players weren’t trying their hardest on the pitch.

He said: “The issue is, come January, those players can start talking to other clubs anyway. So they are going to know exactly where they stand.

“Look I know these players personally, I don’t think they are players, in my mind, would step over the white line and not give their all.

“I know players who can do that, but those two characters, in my opinion, aren’t like that.”

It doesn’t look like Christian Eriksen is likely to sign a new contract as the Dane has made no secret of his desire to seek a new challenge. In the case of Alderweireld, the Belgian clearly just wants a lucrative deal as it will be the last big contract of his career.

Vertonghen has previously claimed he can still play at the top level but refused to commit his future to the club (Express).
