Peter Crouch sums up Tottenham’s problems despite 5-1 win over Mura

Peter Crouch has admitted that Tottenham’s 5-1 win over NS Mura in the Europa Conference League is a step in the right direction for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men but urged them not to get carried away.

After a promising start to the campaign that saw Spurs occupy the top of the table after three games, the club have fallen to three successive losses in the Premier League, conceding nine goals in the process.

The 3-1 defeat in the North London Derby on Sunday has piled the pressure on Nuno early into his reign as Tottenham boss and the Portuguese coach admitted the team needed to respond positively on Thursday.

He certainly got the response he was looking for from his players as the Lilywhites demolished the Slovenian side, courtesy of a second-half hat-trick from Harry Kane after coming off the bench.

Crouch has admitted that despite the thumping win, the jury is still out on whether Spurs are improving.

The former Tottenham man told BT Sport 2 (22:00 onwards and relayed by The Daily Mail): “If you take this game out of the equation the results and performances have been poor.

“They’ve been bottom of the league for chances created. Things haven’t been good defensively and they haven’t been creating enough going forward.

“I don’t think since the opening day of the season, it’s not been vintage Tottenham.

“Are they moving in the right direction? I’m not sure. It was a great result after such a disappointment (against Arsenal).”

We certainly cannot afford to read too much into yesterday’s performance given the quality of the opposition we were up against. However, a morale-boosting win was certainly needed to bring a feel-good factor back to the club on the back of the North London derby defeat.
