Petr Cech to start against Tottenham in first match since retiring 19 months ago

Liam Twomey from The Athletic has now revealed that Petr Cech will take to the pitch for Chelsea once again this week.

The Premier League legend retired 19 months ago but returned to the Chelsea squad this season as a registered keeper.

Cech will reportedly make his return against none other than fierce London rivals, Tottenham although the match will be between the two clubs’ U23 sides.

The last competitive match Cech played was the Europa League Final in May 2019 before moving to Chelsea to serve as their Technical and Performance Director.

First choice Chelsea U23 keeper, Lucas Bergstrom, played for the U18 side on Saturday and the club are reluctant to play him twice over such a short period of time.

While Karlo Zigler could stand in, Chelsea would rather him continue to train with the first-team squad, rather than have to leave and take a COVID test again upon his return.
