Phil Thompson names Spurs pair who he expects to leave this summer – Alderweireld doesn’t feature

Pochettino has recently talked of the need for a painful rebuild (Evening Standard), which seems to indicate that there will likely be a lot of player-turnover this summer at Spurs.

While several of Tottenham’s starts have been linked with moves away from the club, Phil Thomson has named the two players he expects to leave before the start of next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 65-year-old pundit said: “There is talk of Christian Eriksen leaving, who is their creative influence. That would be a big blow to Tottenham.

“I think Fernando Llorente could move on too as he will want more game time.”

Christian Eriksen’s contract with the club just has one more year left to run, and the Dane looks no closer to signing an extension with the club. The 25-year-old, who has spent 6 seasons at the club, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid (Express Sport).

Fernando Llorente’s contract with the club runs out at the end of the current season, and while the Spaniard has revealed his intention to stay at Spurs (Sky Sports), at 34 years of age, the chances of him getting a new contract also seem rather slim.

Eriksen’s position seems fairly clear as the Dane looks like he is waiting to see if there is interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona before committing his future with Spurs.

With respect to Llorente, there is no doubt that the World Cup winner has done his job when called upon by Pochettino. Let’s hope he is able to get his hands on the Champions League trophy and write his name into Tottenham’s folklore before leaving the club.
