Phil Thompson offers Harry Winks this advice

Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Harry Winks has come on leaps and bounds this season in the absence of many recognisable first team midfielders.

The likes of Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko, Luke Amos, Eric Dier, and Mousa Dembele have all been out injured at one time or another, with the latter later transferred away to China.

This has left young Harry Winks to hold down the fort in the Spurs engine room, and he has done an incredible job.

The former-academy man has arguably been one of Spurs’ best performers of the campaign so far, and looks to be a sure started for both club and country in the future.

The midfield man has added pace, trickery, power, and strength to his already dynamic passing, and he even popped up with a 93rd minute winner against Fulham last time out in the Premier League.

After just his second goal for Spurs, Sky Sports’ Phil Thompson believes he must now add more goals and assists to his game.

Thompson said (Gillette Soccer Saturday as reported by HITC): “You have to start now assists. You have to start passing the ball forward, and I don’t just mean around the corner, getting it back. That’s not playing it forward.

“I mean, now start to pick 15, 20-yard balls though the middle, hurting people, hurting people with your passing. That’s what he has to do. Once you have got that, then you have to start adding goals to it.”
