Phil Thompson on who has done the better job, Pochettino or Klopp

Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has given his opinion on which manager has done the better job out of Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp.

Pochettino moved to North London from Southampton in May 2014 and despite guiding the club to four successive top-four finishes is yet to win a competitive trophy during his managerial career.

The Spurs boss was pipped to the Champions League by Jurgen Klopp when Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners during the final in Madrid.

Klopp was appointed as Liverpool manager in October 2015 and after losing in the final of the Carabao Cup, Champions League and Champions League has since gone on to help the Reds lift the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.

Thompson, who played for Liverpool between 1971 and 1984 believes that Klopp’s success with bringing silverware from Merseyside gives him the advantage over Pochettino.

Spurs will have the opportunity to seek revenge for the defeat in June when both clubs meet for the first time since the final.

Thompson told Sporting Life: “You have to see the resurgence of Liverpool. You could say winning the Champions League puts Klopp above Pochettino, but it was two managers who had not won anything in the English game going into Champions League final.

“That has elevated Klopp, but he has also taken them to another Champions League final, Europa League final and a Carabao Cup final too. I admire Pochettino immensely, but even he would have to say that what Klopp has done has been unbelievable.”
