Photo: Banned Erik Lamela reacts to Spurs win after watching from home

Erik Lamela, who was suspended for the trip to Villa Park last night, seemed to have enjoyed watching his teammates put in a spirited display to come away with a 2-0 win.

Tottenham arguably had the worst week since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club heading into clash against Aston Villa yesterday.

While the performance in the North London derby was a huge let down last Sunday, the frustration was compounded by one of the club’s most humiliating European defeats on Thursday as Dinamo Zagreb came back from a two-goal deficit to knock Spurs out of the Europa League.

The players’ commitment and professionalism was questioned by Mourinho after the defeat in Croatia and a response was certainly needed.

The Spurs boss was not scared to ring the changes as Carlos Vinicius, Giovani Lo Celso, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga all came into the starting eleven.

It was a brave call by Mourinho, particularly with Lamela being suspended after getting a red card against Arsenal and Son Heung-min recovering from his hamstring problem.

However, the changes had the desired effect as the away side showed plenty of fight and came away with three points while also managing to keep a clean sheet.

Lamela was pleased watching his teammates respond in the manner they did as the Argentine took to Instagram to post the following:

Lamela, like Lucas Moura, is the definition of a team player. The Argentine always works his socks off whether he starts or comes off the bench and is always cheering the team on from the sidelines even if he is not involved.

I believe that is the attitude that Lloris suggested was lacking in some other members in the squad during his emotional interview after Thursday’s loss.
