The future of Christian Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur has been widely speculated throughout the summer.

Eriksen wasted no time following the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool when he disclosed to Danish reporters that he wanted to seek a new challenge away from North London whilst also inviting interest from Real Madrid in his services (Ekstra Bladet).

With the European transfer window set to close on Monday, Eriksen is certainly running out of time to get the move he desires.

Eriksen is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season and could potentially walk away from the club for free.

However, the Dane has certainly given an indication that he is set to be at Spurs beyond September 2nd with his Instagram story.   Eriksen posted a photo of the club’s Group B fixtures in the Champions League against Bayern Munich, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade along with the caption ‘Champions League nights’

We certainly need his creativity if we are to mount another challenge in this season’s competition.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Behind the scene, a great new contract awaiting him as a free agent in 2019. Again, since his team cannot make this official, he may also be screwed by big teams who are competitors to spurs in Champions league, and desperate to see him performing under par and promised green forests and gold, which they will not deliver come his free transfer!

But think there will be plenty of beggars for his services next jan, june. Including Spurs. But he is destined to perform under par this season, as cannot risk any injury that would end his footballing career, with one year left. Same for other players in similar circumstances. So will be a socalled lame duck this season. No doubt able to deliver some crucial free kicks, corners, passes during the season. But , of course will not be loo% in it. As would nobody in similar circumstances!

  2. Tottenham would never end up in this predicament had Levi and Poccitino done their homework as they should have long before the end of the season. I cannot see how they can get themselves into the predicament they are in. We should never get to the end of the season and decide to sell players that are over their 30th year. It has always been a bona contention that you keep the older players on to nurture your upcoming players, you need to have the older players to help you fit in your new players. The players that were earmarked for sale should have been put up a lot earlier and not in the beginning of the new season but also being given the opportunity to sign a new shorter contract which should have been offerd this while the new boys were being offered those inflated new salaries.. As it is we seem to be losing Vertogen, Alderviral, and Ereckson..
