Photo: Injury boost for Spurs as first-team player is pictured returning to training

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed an injury boost ahead of their Europa League third-round qualification round as Japhet Tanganga has returned to training.

The defender did exceptionally well after breaking into the Spurs first team at the start of the calendar year.

Despite being a central defender by trade, the youngster proved his versatility by putting in accomplished displays across the backline as he got a run of games under his belt.

His impressive performances saw Tanganga being rewarded with a new five-year deal back in July.

However, the 21-year-old was sidelined with a back stress fracture a few months ago, which has meant that he has not played a single minute since lockdown.

It looks as though the Spurs academy graduate has put his injury problems behind him as he was pictured training on Wednesday ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Macedonia to face KF Shkendija on Thursday.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tanganga was extremely unfortunate to suffer an injury after the restart, which robbed him of the opportunity to make the centre-back spot his own. Given the number of games we are likely to have this season, the youngster will surely get his opportunities and he will be hoping to carry on from where he left off last season. I can certainly see Tanganga pushing himself ahead of both Alderweireld and Sanchez in the pecking order, as I do not think Jose is convinced either player is the long-term solution for us at centre-back.
