Photo: Jan Vertonghen provides seven-word update ahead of Champions League final

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the Champions League final following a dramatic second-half display against Ajax.

After the highs of the away goal victory, Spurs fans were left concerned about the sight of Jan Vertonghen leaving the Johan Cruff ArenA on crutches. The Belgian defender, who wore a protective mask during the match following the facial knock he sustained in the first leg injured his ankle and couldn’t put weight on his foot after the match.

Vertonghen has forged a superb defensive partnership with Toby Alderweireld over the past few seasons and his absence from the final against Liverpool on June 1st would have presented a substantial blow to the club’s hopes of a first Champions League title.

The 32-year-old took part in training at Hotspur Way yesterday to continue his rehabilitation and was photographed running alongside Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez who are both returning from injury.

Vertonghen posted on his Instagram account that he is getting ready for the final which will certainly encourage fans that he is likely to be fit for the match.

Opinion

Super Jan has arguably been our most consistent performer over the past few seasons and is pivotal to our hopes of beating Liverpool. With over a week until the match, fans will be confident that he will be named in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven.
