Photo: Spurs make ‘positive vibe’ reference to Jan Vertonghen

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to omit Jan Vertonghen from the matchday squad against Aston Villa caught many people by surprise.

The Argentine confirmed after the game that the Belgian international was not suffering from any injuries and that he had to work hard to win his place in the side back (Evening Standard).

This comment caused some Spurs fans on social media to speculate on whether there had been a falling out between the pair.

It was reported this week that the reason Pochettino decided to overlook the 32-year-old for the game against Villa was that he was happy with the defender’s fitness levels in pre season.

The Daily Mail claimed that Vertonghen was furious at his manager for being dropped for the opening game of the season.

However, in the training pictures that the club posted on social media, Vertonghen appears to be all smiles ahead of the trip to Manchester City.

We as fans need to trust Mauricio Pochettino as he has shown in the past that he is good at handling situations like these. Hopefully being dropped from the team motivates Vertonghen to prove his manager wrong by getting back to full fitness and having another good season. We expect the 32-year-old to return to the starting line up against Manchester City on Saturday.
