Photo: Spurs pair photographed on plane amid international duty uncertainty

Cristian Romero has taken to Instagram this evening to share a photo of himself on board a plane along with Giovani Lo Celso, Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia.

The photo of the two Tottenham players and the duo from Argentina on the recent arrival from Atalanta’s was published on his Instagram story (29/08) and appears to confirm that the quartet are defying orders not to travel on international duty with Argentina.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Lo Celso and Romero were likely to follow in the footsteps of Martinez and Buendia by making themselves available by travelling back to their homeland for the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela, Brazil and Bolivia.

English top flight clubs unanimously decided not to release players for international matches in red-list countries next month, a decision which was supported by the Premier League.

The decision to travel to Argentina, which is currently defined by the Government as a red-list country will mean under current rules, they will have to undertake 10 days of hotel quarantine upon return to England.

SpursWeb Opinion

It is a disappointing decision for the Spurs pair to decide to go against their club and Premier League, knowing they could miss the club’s next four matches in all competitions. The manner of confirming the news via a plane selfie is also in poor taste, an explanation letter to fans would have been a better decision.
