Pienaar: I felt wanted at Spurs

Tottenham’s new midfield signing Steven Piennar has revealed that he prayed before making his decision to reject Chelsea in favour of a £3m move to north London. “I prayed and followed my heart,” said the South African.

Pienaar made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United and revealed that he also turned down offers from Spain to move to White Hart Lane.

“Looking from the outside, you can see the attacking football Spurs play, it is in a different class, making you sit on the edge of your seat. Everyone can see they are a club on the up, always fighting for a place in the top four and the Champions League.

“It was not about money. I felt wanted here, which is important, and I want to play every game at the highest level. That’s why I made this decision. I asked a lot of people, and some were telling me to join Chelsea or go to Spain, but I prayed and followed my heart.

“Time will tell if it is the best decision, and if I fail, I will take the responsibility.”
