Piero Hincapie reacts to transfer rumours amidst links with Tottenham

Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has admitted that he would like to play in La Liga one day.

Hincapie has won many admirers with his impressive displays since moving to Germany in the summer of 2021.

The centre-back was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer, with Revolo journalist Marcos Duran stating back in June that both Spurs and AC Milan had spoken to the 20-year-old’s representatives regarding a summer transfer.

Hincapie ended up staying in Leverkusen but Calciomercato.it reported earlier this month that Spurs’ interest in the centre-back had not dissipated.

The report stated that along with the Lilywhites, Milan, Napoli and AS Roma have also watched the centre-back on a few occasions this season.

It was alleged that Antonio Conte was looking at the Ecuador international with ‘some interest’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Hincapie has now admitted that he is flattered to be linked with so many big clubs and disclosed his ambition to play for one of the big clubs in Spain.

The Leverkusen star told Marca: “Now, when I read or hear that so many teams love me, it means that I am doing something right.

“In any case, I try to focus on doing my best with Bayer Leverkusen. I try to continue improving. So that, if necessary, I can make the leap to another team in the future.

“I’ve followed La Liga since I was a child. I watch a lot of matches, not just the Clasicos. I would like to lead a big La Liga team one day.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am convinced that Tottenham will be in the market for a left-sided centre-back next summer but based on the reports since the summer, it would appear that Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni are the two players who are on the top of the club’s wishlist.
