Premier League rivals set to snap up defender rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Ruben Dias has reportedly left Benfica to complete a move to Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are currently prioritising a deal for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, with negotiations taking place last week between the Lilywhites and the Serie A giants (Calcio Mercato).

However, Dias is another name who was reportedly on the club’s radar, with Spurs even seeing an offer for the Portuguese international rejected by Benfica in January (Evening Standard).

City have already added to their backline with the addition of Nathan Ake this summer but the defensive display from Pep Guardiola’s side against Leicester on Sunday left a lot to be desired as they were hit for five.

They will be hoping that the arrival of Dias to the Etihad will help fix some of their issues at the back, with the City reportedly agreeing on a deal worth £65 million with Benfica for the central defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why City have gone for Dias as he is well suited to the way they play given his ability on the ball and the pace he has to recover. However, £65m is certainly too much for a defender who is unproven in a top league. If we can get an agree a deal of around £40m- £50m for Skriniar, we would have certainly got a better deal than City.
