PL striker names 23-year-old Spurs man among toughest defenders he has faced

Southampton striker, Michael Obafemi, has named Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez among the toughest defenders he has come up against in the Premier League so far.

Sanchez made the move to Tottenham in the summer of 2017 after enjoying an impressive first season in European football with Ajax.

In that season, he played a crucial role in helping the Dutch giants to win the Eredivisie and reach the finals of the Europa League.

His performances in the Netherlands saw Spurs shell out £42 million to bring him to North London, a club record transfer for the Lilywhites at the time.

Despite still being just 23 years of age, the centre-half has considerable experience under his belt already, having also represented Colombia in the 2018 World Cup.

Obafemi, who has been getting plenty of opportunities under Ralph Hasenhuttl this season, listed the Spurs defender among three of his most difficult Premier League opponents.

When asked to name the best defenders he has faced so far, the Republic of Ireland international told the Rising Ballers FC’s Instagram channel: “Fikayo Tomori, Davinson Sanchez and Van Dijk”.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sanchez’s displays this season have gone under the radar, even among Spurs fans. Despite being one of our most consistent performers, his name has barely been mentioned in discussions about our player of the season. While that is understandable in a sense, given how poor we have been defensively this campaign, the Colombian is not to blame for the fact that we have been leaking goals. He has managed to cut out the lapses in concentration that he suffered from on occasions in his first couple of seasons at the club.
